Residents of northern Fairfield County can now score some of Popeyes' signature fried chicken, butterfly shrimp and fluffy Southern biscuits.

The parking lot was already filled on Sunday as the Louisiana-style eatery opened its first Danbury location. Other Popeyes in Fairfield County can be found in Norwalk, Trumbull, Stratford and two in Bridgeport.

The quintessential bright orange building, which includes a drive-through lane, is on Newtown Road just off I-84 near the borders with Bethel and Brookfield.

If you're hungry, the site is a perfect destination for diners. The Louisiana Kitchen, which features seafood and Cajun-inspired fare as well as its famous fried chicken in a fast-casual style, joins the upscale Texas Roadhouse on the site. Texas Roadhouse is famous for its hand-cut steaks, ribs, combos and more.

The two new restaurants went up in just a matter of months on the site of a closed car dealership (a victim of the great recession) next to Stop & Shop.

The development also includes an Aspen Dental office, American Family Care's Urgent Care medical office and a T-Mobile store.

The very busy Newtown Road just got a bit busier.
