“A lot of these crafts are fine works of art,” said Bob Brown, president of Brookfield Museum & Historical Society, which is sponsoring the show. “On the other hand, a lot the crafts are also very affordable.”
About 50 vendors, who produce intricate, quality crafts, are expected the festival at Whisconier Middle School on West Whisconier Road off Route 25 in Brookfield.
The Festival of Crafts, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, is unique because its a juried show.
Vendors must be approved by a panel before they can sell their wares at the event.
Many the crafts available for sale at the festival are truly special, Brown said.
Many unique vendors attend the event, he said. One vendor produces beautiful plates and platters through the process of woodturning, a form of woodworking using a lathe.
“They’re just great example of artwork made of wood,” Brown said.
Another vendor sells handmade mechanical pencils and ballpoint pens.
“They’re quite intricate and quite beautiful,” Brown said.
The festival is busiest shortly before opening — between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m, Brown said.
Tasty treats will also be available at the festival. A food truck will be stationed at the school, offering high-end sandwiches and salads.
“It’s worthwhile for going for just that,” Brown said.
The Festival of Crafts, which began more than 25 years ago, has always drawn many visitors from Brookfield and beyond.
“Early on we drew a huge crowd at the Center School,” Brown said. The festival has since outgrown its original venue, he said.
While the popularity of craft shows has come and gone, “We’ve done very well with this craft show,” Brown said. He expects 1,000 customers to attend this year.
