BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- The Brookfield Police Department will be among the numerous organizations taking part in the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce's Wellness Festival, according to a Facebook statement from the police department.
Town police officers are set to maintain two booths at the Tuesday, April 12, event, according to the statement.
At one station, officers will allow festival attendees to submit to field sobriety tests while wearing impairment goggles. The exercise aims to teach participants about the dangers, risks and consequences that come with drunken and impaired driving.
Another station operated by the department will aim to teach about the importance of wearing seat belts, according to the statement.
The department will allow those in attendance to ride The Convincer, a seat belt demonstration machine. The device simulates a 5-10 mph impact with a standard seat belt. Officers believe the results will convince all involved that a seat belt should be worn at all times.
The Wellness Festival also is set to feature a number of local businesses, each promoting a healthier and safer lifestyle.
