The L.A.-based band is tough to pigeonhole with its forays into folk, country and rock — and that eclectic spirit will likely be on display in their performance at FTC’s intimate StageOne.

“I think the live performance is the truest representation of the songs because they are ever changing and there's a magic in flaws,” band member Mackenzie Howe said in an interview with series co-curators Chris Frantz and Peter Katis.

“We are always tweaking our parts on the road and trying new things. Plus, the energy of the crowd can really affect the mood of the song and some audiences bring out completely new feelings in us.”

The series launched in May with a performance by synth-pop duo Xeno and Oaklander.

Since 2004, FTC has brought artists from all genres and walks of life to their multiple stages. From The Lumineers to Conor Oberst to First Aid Kit, these artists have all performed on StageOne before hitting the mainstream.

The Brody Wilkinson Emerging Artist Series seeks to bring more of these on-the-rise artists to Connecticut. Frantz, Tom Tom Club percussionist and former member of Talking Heads, his wife, bassist Tina Weymouth, also of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club fame, and Katis are reaching out to friends and new bands they hope to bring to Fairfield.

The Wild Reeds recorded their latest record at Katis’ Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, so they’re familiar with the area.

In an effort to keep things informal, Katis, Frantz, Weymouth and The Wild Reeds invite ticket holders to a pre-show meet & greet before the band takes the stage at 8 p.m. For more information on the show and series, visit fairfieldtheatre.org.
