Might we interest you in “Martin Luther, Rebel Priest,” a musical touting the attributes of another unlikely personality — the leader of the Protestant Reformation?

Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church is marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with a free performance of the historical musical on October 15.

The play stars professional performers Richard Weidlich and Luther and David Victor as the narrator, as well as amateur performers from the OSLC Players.

Luther’s wife, Katharina von Bora, will be portrayed by Ericka Tennant, a Fairfield Ludlowe High School student who can trace her ancestry on her mother’s side back to the real von Bora.

“Martin Luther, Rebel Priest” was written and composed in 1983 by Carmino Ravosa, a lifelong music educator who was the songwriter for the children’s TV shows “Captain Kangaroo,” “Romper Room” and “Shining Time Station” and the PBS publication “Sesame Street Magazine.”

The 4 p.m. performance at the church, 160 Hill Farm Road, will be followed by a reception featuring German-style refreshments. A free-will offering will be collected with proceeds going to benefit the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport.
