The recently opened, state-of- the-art facility was built from the ground up with the goal of creating a different kind of patient care experience in mind. "You come into a beautiful facility, are greeted by individuals who are happy to be there, encounter minimal wait times, and ultimately have great outcomes," said Michael Yonkers, operations administrator of the new facility on Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown.
The new office, located on the first floor, is a model in primary care and specialty services, and the patient experience is part of the medical group's larger focus on providing personal care without compromise.
"One of the first things patients notice is the building. It is a beautiful place, and people sense they're going to be treated differently," said Yonkers. "We provide a very unique experience. It's not like sitting in a doctor's office, rather it's like you're sitting in a living room."
Patients aren't the only ones loving the new Newtown Primary Care and Health Specialists office. "Doctors are very happy with the new care teams," said Jim Coleman, practice administrator. Doctors' offices are located in the corners in the building and flanked by supporting medical teams and nurses, creating a collaborative environment. "This way, the doctors' staff is right there when they need it," he said.
"As part of a patient's care team, they'll have their doctor, their nurse and that familiarity each time they go back," said Coleman. And since Western Connecticut Medical Group has integrated other health services in the same facility, patients can walk down the hall to see a specialist, rather than having to head off-site. "The ability to see a specialist in their primary care office is a big plus for most people," said Coleman.
For Newtown and upper Fairfield County residents, several familiar faces practice in the new state-of-the-art facility. Maureen Engels, APRN, who has worked in Newtown for more than 25 years, will work out of the office, as will pediatrician Dr. Lalaine Mortera, who has practiced in Newtown for years, and Medical Director Dr. Anureet Gill, who resides in town.
Newtown Primary Care and Health Specialists will host an open house on Wednesday, December 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The office is located at 170 Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown. RSVP by November 30 by calling (203) 794-5427, or email susan.dalonzo@wchn.org.
