Blue Buffalo issued the voluntary recall Monday for one production lot of BLUE Wilderness® Rocky Mountain RecipeTM Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs.

According to the company, dogs ingesting high levels of beef thyroid hormones may exhibit symptoms such as increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate, and restlessness.

These symptoms may go away, Blue Buffalo said, when the dog stops eating the food.

However, it said, if fido has been eating it for a long time, his symptoms could get worse and include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid or difficulty breathing.

Blue Buffalo advised pet parents to call the veterinarian immediately if these symptoms occur.

Blue Buffalo said its Customer Care Resource Team has not received any direct reports of dogs getting sick from the food, however, the company decided to launch an investigation and to issue the recall after being advised by the FDA that one dog had been sickened.

That pooch has fully recovered, Blue Buffalo said.

The voluntary recall is limited to one production lot of the following product:

  • Product Name: BLUE Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs 12.5 oz can
  • UPC Code: 840243101153
  • Best Buy Date: June 7, 2019 (found on the bottom of the can)

Affected products were distributed nationally through pet specialty and online retailers.

No other Blue Buffalo products were impacted by the recall.

Consumers purchased the recalled product should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, the company said.
