SHERMAN, Conn. -- For the first day of Sherman Historical Society's new program, "Hooked on History," children learned what life would have been like in 18th century Colonial times.

The program is for children entering into first through third grades.

Kids learned what it takes to make pickles, clear a field, plant, move hay and make toys (with buzz saws and marbles), and about trading.
