Feeling Fit is a women's only group fitness and personal strength training studio that has been open since 2009. It's owned by Brookfield resident Kim Petruska, who has been a group fitness instructor and personal trainer for 15 years.

"I'm always changing up the classes," said Petruska, who is certified with the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

She said her clients' goals at Feeling Fit are to lose weight, reduce stress, get toned, as well as to improve strength, sleep and self confidence.

Classes that are offered at Feeling Fit include sculpting, which uses body bars, dumbbells and tubes to strengthen and tone all major muscle groups and keep the heart pumping.

Another class is "Heavy Bag," where participants are led through a series of kicking and punching combinations on a free standing bag.

"Butts and Guts" tones the abdominal muscles and shapes the lower half of the body such as the hamstrings, quads, glutes and calves.

According to Petruska, one of the greatest benefits of a group fitness class is accountability. "We're all in the same boat. Everyone is coaching everyone else and we all give encouragement to one another," she said.

"I'm always able to give modifications on any of the exercises for people who need them. So, you really get that one-on-one personal attention, even in a group fitness environment," said Petruska, who is 50 and the mother of two grown children.

In addition to her weekly group fitness classes, Petruska offers specialty classes such as "Christmas in July," "Chicks on the Run" and "Workout n’ Wine."

Brookfield resident Monica Walsh said what makes Feeling Fit special is the other women in the class. "We are all there for the same goals -- better health. And as I struggle some days, I always feel the support of the women who are right there sweating alongside me.

"Also, I feel that Kim gets me and is there to help me be a better me. She knows how to motivate and encourage me to keep going," said Walsh, 56, who is a school nurse. "What keeps me coming back is that I have become stronger and my body and mind feel better."

Petruska said, "I get so much satisfaction from seeing the results that people are getting from my classes and hearing how fitness has changed their lives."
