Hosted by Fairfield County's Community Foundation, on Giving Day -- which was Thursday, March 10 -- residents of Fairfield County were encouraged to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofit organizations in 24 hours through online donations.

Aside from the money the YMCA raised, it was one of the first organizations to receive a $1,000 prize for having at least 25 gifts of $25 or more donated after midnight during its "The Y After Dark" event. This was the YMCA's first ever Giving Day event.

According to Marie Miszewski, president and CEO of the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut, all gifts will go directly to help those most in need of support in the YMCA's three areas of focus -- youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Regional YMCA is a community service organization committed to building healthy lives through programs that strengthen the spirit, mind and body for all. Aside from Brookfield, the YMCA serves Danbury, Bethel, Newtown and New Fairfield.
