Deep: New Fairfield's Popular Squantz Pond Is Closed to Swimming

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn.— If you're looking to beat the heat, Squantz Pond in New Fairfield is not an option for Wednesday.

The swimming area at the popular state park is closed Wednesday due to issues with water quality, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced.

Looking to head a little farther north to cool off from the summer heat? The swimming area Lake Waramaug State Park in Kent is closed, too. But Shelton's Indian Well State Park and Westport's Sherwood Island State Park are both open to swimming.

Squantz Park is a popular summer beach and frequently is forced to close on summer weekends when the parking lot fills up. On July 4, the park's parking lot was filled to capacity by 8:15 a.m.
