NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. — New Fairfield's Town Park is reopening Sunday after a closure due to contamination of blue-green algae in the water of Candlewood Lake, the town announced in a Facebook post.

The blue-green algae can emit toxins that are harmful to people and pets if ingested or inhaled or if you come into contact with it. It can cause irritation of the skin, nose, eyes and respiratory tract; and vomiting or diarrhea;

The beach has been closed since Thursday.
