NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A 97-year-old veteran from New Fairfield is battling a Danbury nursing home that is suing him over a $100,000 bill, according to the News-Times website .
But Lou Russo, a World War II combat veteran, said he was held against his will at the nursing home, which has offered to settle the bill for $10,000, the News-Times said.
Russo said his case has been mishandled since he fell to years ago and a court-appointed conservator began making the decisions about his life, sending him to the nursing home and spending Russo's life savings, the story said.
With the help of advocates, Russo has returned to his home, but the nursing home charges not covered by his insurance remain to be settled, the News-Times said.
