Services Announced For David Stankiewicz, 21, Weston High Graduate

WESTON, Conn. — Calling hours and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held this week for David Stankiewicz of Weston, who died Saturday.

Stankiewicz, 21, was a senior at Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences. No cause of death was specified.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 35 Norfield Road, Weston.

A 2013 graduate of Weston High School, he was an All-State and All New England runner for the boys track team. He was a multiple South-West Conference and Class M champion and ran cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.

Stankiewicz also ran track and field in his freshman and sophomore years at Syracuse.

David Stankiewicz was the son of Marek and Dorota Stankiewicz. His younger brother, Kevin, is a junior at Weston High and also runs on the school’s track team. He is also survived by his younger sister, Sandra.

His high school coach Marty Ogden remembered Stankiewicz, one of the most decorated track and field athletes to run for Weston, as a quiet leader and incredible competitor.

Stankiewicz won multiple South-West Conference championships and helped Weston take third in the 4 x 800 relay in the New England Championships as a freshman. 

As a sophomore, he finished fifth in the State Open in the 800 and qualified for the New England Championships. He ran a leg on Weston’s victorious 4 x 400 relay in the 2013 Class M outdoor track and field championships. That year, he also anchored the 4 x 800 relay team to a fourth-place finish in Class M.
