BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- A new Brookfield police dog is set to earn his certification in October, according to authorities.

Argo, a 16-month-old Belgian Malinois, was purchased by the department recently thanks to a $12,500 donation from Warren and Ruth Malkin , Brookfield police said in a statement on the department's Facebook page.

The dog has already begun its training and is set to officially join the department within months, police said.

The Maklins met Argo during the Board of Selectman meeting at Town Hall on Aug. 1, police said.

Argo joins the department's K-9 program, taking the spot of Bruno, a police dog who died in July.
