BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- Benjamin Gerstenmaier and Bethany Barr have joined the Brookfield Police Department as new police officers.

They participated in a swearing-in ceremony on their first day of work.

The ceremony was officiated by First Selectman Steve Dunn, with the pair being sworn into service by Town Clerk Joan Locke.

The event was attended by retired and current police officers from multiple municipalities, Brookfield town officials and family and friends.

Gerstenmaier and Barr will start their training at the POSTC Academy.

Both will attend a rigorous six months of basic training and are expected to graduate in September.
