BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- An endangered teen was located within a half-hour by Brookfield officers with the help of a K9 officer late on Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the area of Federal Road, police said.

Police received a call at 11:30 p.m. with a report of a suicidal 17-year-old girl who had run into a wooded area off Federal Road.

Arriving officers determined that the suicidal threat was real, and they established a perimeter and secured the area where the girls was last seen, police said.

With temperatures in the 20s and wind chills making it feel even colder, officers on the scene recognized the immediate need for Police K-9 assistance, and requested the help of Brookfield Police K-9 Bruno, police said. Bruno and his handler, Sgt. Jeff Osuch, arrived and within 15 minutes the team successfully tracked and safely located the girl, police said.

She was found several hundred yards away from her last known location, hiding behind a local business, police said.

The girl was taken to Danbury Hospital by emergency medical service personnel from the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department.
