BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- All Brookfield Police Department officers are trained in the recognition of opiate use and overdoses.

All of them have received mandatory training in the administration of intra-nasal naloxone “narcan” to help reduce the injuries and fatalities of opiate overdoses.

Every Brookfield police officer has been issued an individual opiate overdose response kit. These kits are carried by all on-duty officers.

These kits already have been put to use in the community and have saved lives, officials said.
