Distracted Driver From Danbury Causes Crash, Takes Down Traffic Light

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — A woman from Danbury who was distracted by her GPS while traveling through Bronxville, N.Y., caused a traffic accident that took out a traffic light, police said.

Shortly after 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, police were dispatched to Midland and Kraft Avenue on the report of an auto accident.

According to police, a 40-year-old woman from Danbury was traveling east on Kraft Avenue and attempting to make a left turn onto Midland Avenue. But she drove through a steady red light and forced another motorist to strike the pole holding the traffic light, police said.

The Danbury woman was using a mobile GPS device when she drove through the red light, police said. The woman — whose name was not released — was cited for passing a red light and using a mobile GPS device while driving, polcie said. 

She was issued tickets and is due back in Bronxville Justice Court later this year.
