Fire Rips Through Roof Of Commercial Building In Bethel

BETHEL, Conn. — Firefighters tackled a blaze in a commercial building on Paul Street in Bethel on Saturday, according to a Facebook post.

At 12:50 p.m. Saturday, Bethel and Stony Hill firefighters were dispatched to the fire. 

Crews from Engine 5 and Engine 3 made an interior attack on the fire and knocked down the main body of fire with two handlines, according to a Facebook post from the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company. 

The fire had made its way into the the roofing material of the commercial building. 

Crews spent the next hour-and-a-half cutting open the roof to access the fire along the perimeter of the roof. 

Units responding were Engine 5, Engine 3, Engine 1, Tower 1, Rescue 2, Rescue 1, Engine 6, Engine 11, A1, Medic 640, CT DEEP, and Wooster Hose Co. No. 5. 

The Bethel Fire Department was covered by West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, and Stony Hill was covered by Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company during the blaze.  

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Bethel Fire Marshal's office.
