SHERMAN, Conn. -- Mechanic and Sherman resident Bob Stackowitz was arrested last month on charges of escaping from a Georgia prison 48 years ago while serving two years of a sentence for robbery that was for 17 years, reported The New York Times.

Stackowitz, who went by the alias Bob Gordon, is 71 and was found after filing for Social Security benefits "under his real name," a discovery made by the Georgia Corrections Department, said The New York Times.

The agency "had long since stopped actively looking" the fugitive, according to the report.

He was arrested by federal marshals, with the accompaniment of a Connecticut state trooper, said the newspaper.
