Police told the News-Times that Mario Guaman, 37, had dozed off at El Milenio Restaurant, 21 North St., and, after accepting the ride, had argued with the woman about who should drive.

The suspect yanked the unidentified woman out of the car then punched and choked her, the story said.

A police officer pulled the car over early Sunday during a traffic stop and discovered the battered and bleeding woman in the back seat, The News-Times said.

Guaman was charged with third-degree assault, third-degree strangulation, and second-degree unlawful restraint.
