New Fairfield Man Charged With Manslaughter In Fatal Crash On Route 37

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A New Fairfield man was charged with manslaughter on Monday in connection to a fatal accident nearly a year ago on Route 37 in town, according to Connecticut Sate Police.

Robert Francis Martini, 42, was traveling south on Route 37 near Pine Hill Road in New Fairfield on March 28, 2015, when his Mercedes S430 drove off onto the shoulder, struck a rock, and collided with a northbound Honda Civic driven by Jody A. Stracci, of the Bronx, N.Y., who was killed in the accident, police said. Stracci was a teacher, and her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren live in town.

Martini was charged with second-degree manslaughter, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol, driving with a suspended or revoked license and operating a vehicle with unsafe tires, police said. 

Martini was released on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Jan. 22.
