NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Peter "Fleetwood" Weinberger, a member of the New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department Company A, has died.

"It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of member Peter 'Fleetwood' Weinberger," the fire department said in a statement. "I am not sure where to start when trying to explain what Fleetwood has done, not just for Company A but the New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department as a whole.

"Regardless of the task at hand, he always approached it with an open mind and a smile on his face. Those who were fortunate enough to work with Fleetwood could attest to his leadership and upstanding personality.

"His years of dedication and hard work throughout the department will be remembered eternally." the statement said.

No funeral information was announced.
