The NKC will present the donation at the June 6 meeting of the Police Commission, which will be held at Town Hall South at 6:30 p.m.
“The partnership and support that has been developed over the years with the Newtown Kennel Club has allowed this agency to provide K-9 services to the town of Newtown,"said Newtown Chief of Police James Viadero. "Without their continued support the program would most certainly have been in jeopardy of not continuing in such an expeditious manner. The officers of this agency, as well as the citizens of Newtown are eternally thankful for the gracious support. We look forward to this continued community partnership.”
“The Newtown Kennel Club has a long history of supporting Newtown’s K-9 Unit,” said NKC President Helene Nietsch. “The club donated to the purchase of Saint Michael and gave annual donations for his care, training, and well-being. Our hearts went out to Police Officer Felicia Figol, Saint Michael’s partner, and the Newtown community, for the tragic loss of our only Police K-9 Officer. We understand and support the important role the K-9 unit plays in the community and wanted to ensure that funding for another dog was not an obstacle to move forward.”
The Newtown Kennel Club was founded in 1947 and celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. The club has a long tradition of supporting canine causes and charities whose missions include the health and welfare of all dogs in the community. A portion of the proceeds from its annual dog shows are donated to canine-related organizations, non-profits, and the continued support of Newtown’s Police K-9 Unit.
