Wilton High School Principal Robert O'Donnell sent a letter to parents on Thursday informing them of the incident, according to the Wilton Bulletin. O'Donnell said that a student reported on Thursday morning that they had seen a photo of a gun on Snapchat with the phrase "get ready for some fun," according to the Wilton Bulletin.

After receiving the report, school officials and the police department began an investigation, and learned that the picture was a stock photo taken from Google, according to the Wilton Bulletin. The post did not contain a direct threat, and only one student saw the post.

O'Donnell said in his letter that the identity of the person who posted the picture is not know, but the Wilton Police Department is working with Snapchat to obtain information and discover the identity of the person who posted it, the Wilton Bulletin reported.

Instruction continued without interruption at the school on Thursday, but administrators and the school's Resource Officer were visible to ensure students with information would have access to adults, O'Donnell wrote. Wilton Police were also ready to respond if necessary, but officials do not believe that the school faced any credible threat, according to O'Donnell.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
