"It was awesome," she said. "My third grade teacher Mrs. Schlosser is so nice. We took a tour of the school. It is real cool and so big."
Olivia said that during the school day, "We worked on a math sheet and played Welcome Back Bingo."
"I got Bingo twice," she said happily.
Olivia said she is looking forward to finding new reading material at the school library. "My favorite kind of books are about dogs," she said.
Although it was the first day of school, Olivia already has homework. Her first assignment is to bring in a "Me Bag." Inside, she needs to find four things that best describe her.
She already decided she is bringing her favorite stuffed animal and a picture of her new puppy, Penny.
The highlight of the day for 8-year-old Nate O'Brian was gym, where he played Junkyard. "You have a tower and you play with balls from the gym," Nate said, explaining the game.
For 6-year-old Merrick Scholz, the day was extra special because he started kindergarten. Every part of his school day was brand new -- even his bus ride.
"Riding the bus was my favorite part," he said. "I got to sit in the back and it was bumpy."
Merrick got to see the bus again in the afternoon -- when he returned to his bus stop with his mother to wait for his 9-year-old brother Miles to come home.
Six-year-old Lily Chrisman, who is in the first grade at Consolidated School, said, "School was fun. I got to have lunch and recess with my best friend Lilah.
"I liked going out at recess. I was swinging on the swings," she said.
She added that her teacher, Mrs. McCarthy, "is so smart."
