In a message on Twitter, Danbury High Principal Dan Donovan invited students to drop by in the afternoon.
"DHS will be open [Friday] from 12 to 3 p.m., if you want to walk around. Cleanup still happening so watch your step!" said the Tweet.
Also, from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, seniors can drop by the gym lobby to get a parking permit. It's the last day of the presale — the cost is $40 for the year. A total of 180 permits have already been sold.
When students return for a full day of classes on Tuesday, Sept. 5, they will see the results of a full summer of construction work.
Workers tackled multiple construction projects at Danbury High — all part of a $50 million expansion that will make the state’s largest high school even bigger.
Some of the projects are complete — including an enlarged cafeteria, a new parking lot, a new auto shop and a new floor and carpeting in the auditorium.
Work is not yet finished on the new entrance, which is being moved farther north past the auditorium. Bulletproof glass is being installed as is required by law. The school website warns the "front entrance will be under construction."
Work is also continuing on a 24-classroom addition, which is being built behind the D building near the athletic facilities. That new building, which will be the new Freshman Academy, is slated to be completed in the spring.
Enrollment at Danbury High is expected to grow from about 3,000 students to 3,500 in five years.
The start of the school year in the Danbury Public Schools was delayed this year until after Labor Day to ensure that the necessary work was completed at the high school.
