FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Jason Deck’s passion for soccer began at the tender age of one, when the Fairfield toddler first pushed a size 1 ball around his family room.

By age 3, he was on his first recreational team, developing his skills and stamina.

Well, all the hard work and determination has paid off: Deck, who plays for Fairfield Warde High School and Fairfield County premier travel team Revolution United FC, will compete in the World Maccabiah Games this summer.

Often referred to as the "Jewish Olympics," The World Maccabiah Games are held in Israel every four years with more than 9,000 athletes representing 78 countries.

Maccabi USA will bring a team delegation of more than 1,100 athletes who will compete in over 40 sports this summer. Deck was one of 150 players vying for just 20 coveted spots on the Team USA soccer roster.

“It was a humbling and extremely competitive experience,” said the high school senior.

A proud member of the National Honor Society, Deck manages to balance his high-level of athletics with a high-achieving level of academics. He credits his Revolution Coach Floyd Neil for motivating him to never give up on and off the field.

“Coach Floyd has constantly challenged me to adjust my style of play and motivated and challenged me to become a better tactical and technical player,” Deck said. “He pushed my teammates and I to dig deeper and try harder. Most importantly, he taught all of us to keep the game simple, especially during those difficult moments.”

Fast on his feet, Deck currently plays forward and midfielder on both his teams.

“My goal of being selected to represent the USA in competition on an international level would never have been realized without the unwavering support of my family, my RUFC coaches, my FWHS coaches and teachers, my teammates and friends,” Deck said. “I am honored and humbled to represent you, all. I hope to make all of you proud.”
