Freezing Rain To Strike Northern Fairfield County Overnight, For AM Commute

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — A storm that will roll in overnight is now expected to bring freezing rain to northern Fairfield County, the National Weather Service warned.

A Freezing Rain Advisory was issued for interior Connecticut from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, which could wreck havoc with the morning commute and school buses.  

The light freezing rain could make driving difficult, the National Weather Service said. A trace to an few hundredths of an inch of freezing rain could fall. 

Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution due to the slippery conditions. 

Rain and freezing rain will develop across the area late Monday night and into Tuesday morning. It will shift to mostly rain during the day Tuesday and linger throughout the day as temperatures climb into the low 40s in Fairfield County.

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Litchfield County and the rest of the northern half of Connecticut from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with freezing rain and up to an inch of snow in the forecast. The precipitation is also expected to turn to rain during the day. 

A chance of showers continues through Wednesday with the potential for a winter storm late Wednesday night into Thursday. 

The National Weather Service said 6 or more inches could fall — enough to plow — although the current forecast is still uncertain.
