Located at 632 Federal Road, the Woodbridge Running Company is a specialty running store that opened in 2010. It's owned by Woodbridge resident Chris Dickerson, who is also the owner of two other running stores -- the Northampton Running Company in Massachusetts and the Woodbridge Running Company in Woodbridge.

Dickerson said all three stores fill a need in their area for a speciality running store that offers personalized service.

"We are community oriented. We are all about helping the running community be successful in their running goals," he said.

The Woodbridge Running Company serves casual runners, adult athletes and local high school running teams from surrounding towns such as Newtown, Bethel, Ridgefield, Brookfield, New Milford as well as some schools in New York State, Dickerson said.

According to Dickerson, there are many advantages to shopping at a specialty store as opposed to a "big box" store. One bonus? Everyone who works at the Woodbridge Running Company is a runner, too.

"Anyone on our staff can give customers firsthand advice and suggestions," said Dickerson, who coached Woodbridge's Amity Regional High School boy's and girl's cross country and track teams for 17 years.

According to Brookfield store manager Alene Lofink, runners also head to the shop for the Hoka brand running shoes.

"Hoka is a newer shoe, only available about six or seven years, globally. They were designed by and for trail runners, initially, and provide a lot of cushioning for those runners looking for the extra soft feel. And they are super light, and a lot of runners like that," said Lofink of Brookfield, who has been running for 18 years.

Aside from running shoes, the Woodbridge Running Company sells clothes and an assortment of running-related items such as inserts, injury aides, foam rollers, compression tights and nutrition items.

The store also has a thriving running group, co-founded by Lofink, which is 100 members strong. Read about the group here on the Daily Voice
