As part of the program, officers will once again install and check child safety seats for residents.
Three out of four child seats are installed improperly, according to the department. To lessen the percentage, the department has sent three officers for installation certification and has two more officers currently awaiting certification.
Starting Wednesday, Dec. 14, the department will be providing the installation service on a monthly basis.
Since this service is aimed strictly at reducing injuries to children and making them as safe as possible when in a car, this service is offered completely free of charge to everyone, the department said.
To make an appointment or to speak with a technician, contact Child Safety Seat Program at 203-740-4192 or email CarSeats@Brookfieldct.gov.
Since all of the technicians work a rotating schedule, walk-ins will also be accepted when a technician is on duty. To check if a technician is working, call the department's non-emergency number at 203-775-2575 and ask the dispatchers if a technician is on duty.
