Karen Von Tobel of Greenwich was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 12, following a months-long investigation by the Greenwich Police Department's Special Victim's Unit, said Capt. Robert Berry.

Police were first notified on Oct. 23 by a caseworker from the Department of Children and Families of an incident that had taken place on Oct. 16, at a childcare facility in Greenwich, Berry said.

Von Tobel had allegedly forced fed the 17-month-old child causing the child to cry and choke, he added.

During the investigation, another employee showed detectives a video of the incident that depicts the child having food forced into his mouth while crying, as well as gagging and choking on the food forced into his mouth, Berry stated.

An eyewitness corroborated the contents of the video.

The child was not injured during the event, Berry said.

Von Tobel was charged with risk of injury and intentional cruelty to persons. She was released on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 20.
