New Fairfield Man Killed In Two-Car Crash In Danbury Near Prison

DANBURY, Conn. — A 56-year-old New Fairfield man was killed and a second driver was seriously injured in a two-car collision Tuesday night on Pembroke Road in Danbury, police said.

The accident occurred at 7:07 p.m. at 56 Pembroke Road, just south of the New Fairfield border and just north of the Federal Correctional Institution, police said. 

Darel W. Peck, of 1 Knollcrest Road, was driving north on Pembroke Road when his a gray 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GL veered into the southbound travel lane, police said. 

Peck's car hit a 2012 gray Nissan VRS operated by Altimond Cowan, 66, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., police said. 

Peck and Cowan suffered serious injuries in the collision, police said. Both were transported to Danbury Hospital, where Peck was pronounced dead a short while later, police said.

Officer Lance Brevard of the traffic division is investigating the accident along with Sgt. Rory DeRocco.
