Fun, Flamingoes, 4,000 Runners Expected At 5K Honoring Sandy Hook Teacher
STRATFORD, Conn. — About 4,000 runners are expected to take part in the 5th annual Vicki Soto 5K on Saturday, what would have been the Sandy Hook School teacher’s 32nd birthday.
Soto, a first-grade teacher, died Dec. 14, 2012, when a gunman shot and killed 20 children and six staff members at the school.
Runners come from around the United States to participate in the day, which, despite its origins, is filled with fun and laughter. Many sport pink tutus and feather boas in memory of Soto’s love of flamingoes.

New Canaan Band Hopes To Rock The Vote With 95.9 Radio Contest
NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Four New Canaan dads are hoping to rock the vote.
Their band, Mind the Gap, is in the running for 95.9 FOX Radio's Classic Rock Cover Battle.
The group includes Tim Pringle on guitar, Graham Lampen on drums, Arthur Zinn, vocals, guitar and MC and Peter Ditlevsen, bass. Their initials spell Mind The Gap and they are known for performing at area venues as well as private parties.
The grand prize includes $1,000 and the opportunity to perform on the 95.9 the FOX Float at the Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Cross-Country Cancer Research Ride Cycles Into Fairfield This Weekend
FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A seven-week, coast-to-coast cycling event to raise critical cancer research funds will have its grand finale at Jennings Beach on Saturday.
Hundreds of cyclists and supports are expected to cheer on the last-leg riders of the Norwalk-based Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation’s “Road to Victories” event.
The team, made up of patients, loved ones and supporters, is expected at the beach around 1:30 p.m.
Sponsored by Janssen Oncology, the 3,400-mile ride began on Sept. 3 in Manhattan Beach, Calif. and is on track to raise about $400,000 for research into multiple myeloma,…
